Twelve Favorite Photographs from 2012

This year, even more than last, I realized that I don’t need to carry my camera at all times. I could and did go days or weeks at a time without shooting a single frame. Because of this, I shot a lot less film this year than I ever have – probably less than 50 rolls of film. I shot a fair amount of sheet film, but not an obscene number. Instead I used my iPhone a lot to take pictures of stuff that interested me on the street. That format met my desire to share signs, storefronts, and other weird, everyday things. If something really grabbed me, I would return with a camera and film.

Related to that, I also realized that I don’t want or need to photograph every new event/happening/whatever that takes place in NYC. A lot of really nice people invited me out to shoot things like Manhattanenge, laser light shows, parades, and other events. And I don’t think I went to a single one of them. I did drag my 4×5 out to Brooklyn Bridge Park to shoot the 9/11 tribute lights. By myself…

The resulting shot was my favorite photograph that I took in 2012.

A great selection of photos from the past year. I agree about taking the camera places, more so if you’re traveling by foot everywhere!
Hope your 2013 brings you many great photos Shawn.

Such a fantastic round-up of photos! Perhaps I should do the same to ring in the New Year… :)
